‘I have loved every minute of my ‘journey’ with 3H. I started as a volunteer over ten years ago – thinking that maybe I could make a small difference to a young person’s life … I am amazed at what some guests are able to achieve, as are their families. Many guests (and helpers) come back year after year and it’s great to build relationships with their families and regular carers allowing them to enjoy the period of respite they so richly deserve. 3H activity holidays have been, and continue to be very special times treasured by many young people and helpers, including me!’
3H Fund Volunteers
Thankfully we are a nation of volunteers, but the 3H volunteers are a bit special!
Our volunteers enable our guests with disabilities to experience life-changing opportunities not normally available to them and it’s where lasting friendships are made. This also gives exhausted carers a much needed period of respite.
Choosing to volunteer on a 3H Fund holiday will give you the chance to be part of a team of like-minded people. Your willingness to help will contribute towards the success of an enjoyable holiday.
Volunteering with our Group Holidays
As a volunteer on a 3H Holiday you will be partnered with a guest to support them with their needs during the holiday. This may include helping your guest to dress, wash and transfer to and from their wheelchair. You may need to support their toileting needs and to assist at meal-times. You will provide help to the guests to take part in their chosen activities and during any free time requests. Working together as a team you will be supported throughout the week by experienced helpers.
But most importantly you and your guest are on holiday to have fun! The outings and activities may be hard work but you can make a significant difference to someone’s life by enabling them to have a great time!
On group holidays, volunteers must be aged 17 and over. Group Holiday Volunteers are selected by the Group Holiday Leader, with the Registered Manager. Volunteers who are under the age of 18 must have the written consent of a parent or guardian prior to volunteering. It is a requirement of 3H Fund that all staff and holiday volunteers undergo a Disclosure & Barring Service check.
All group holiday volunteers will need to participate in a mandatory training day on 15th June 2019 in Stafford. This will be led by a qualified individual and will cover:
- volunteer’s roles and responsibilities
- moving and handling people
- safeguarding; person centred care
- providing personal care
- infection control and feeding
An evening meal and accommodation will be provided by 3H for all volunteers.
If you would like to make a difference, please contact the 3H office today.
